The melody was discarded from Salmer og aandelige Sange. According to a letter, Nielsen composed the song on 18 March 1915. However, it was one of Nielsen's other melodies – 'Min Jesus, lad mit hjerte få' (CNW 184) – that became the more commonly used one for this text. See more about this work at The Royal Library
